Dear Friends,

Happy 122312864837th day of the lockdown because we have lost count of how long we have been at home!

Nevertheless, while our trips to the fridge and our waistlines increase, our pantries could be used by the Lord for a higher purpose of freshness and relaxation (maybe if I spiritualize my being in the kitchen all day long, I would feel less guilty, **haha**!).

With the extra time on our hands, there's no better way to come out of this looking and feeling fresh, inside and out. If you're someone who is a stickler for self-care and loves to try new things, you'll be interested in these "au naturel" and simple facials. And all ingredients are easy to find (cause, ain't nobody got time for those expensive organic products!).

Although these recipes are not remedies for any skin conditions (I am no expert, and having tried these so often, I thought it might bless a soul), you can use them even if you have baby-like, or not and just want to feel fab, and stay safe on a budget!

Wanna feel like a million-dollar bill? Let's #self-care together;

1. Honey the magic wand

Honey, rich in antioxidants and flavonoids, has antibacterial benefits in addition to its other goody benefits. It acts as a pore cleanser, exfoliant, natural hydrant, cure for acne and pimples, scar healing, anti-aging, and reduces wrinkles. Truly, honey is an underrated part of our #selfcare regime and now those delicious bottles at the back of our pantries can be put to good use. A little drop goes a long way. Here are a few ways honey can give you that clean, sleek feeling on your face;

  • First, wet your face, then apply a few drops of honey. Massage it into your face, avoiding areas around your eyes. Rinse off with warm water, pat your face dry, and moisturize. This helps remove and loosens dirt from your face.

  • Having a few breakouts and spots?! Wet your face, spread out a few drops of honey on your face, let it sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse off, pat your face dry, and moisturize. Feel nourishment, and hydration pop back on your face!

2. The Honey and Cinnamon Face mask

The antimicrobial properties in cinnamon when mixed with honey have a general healing effect for spots and acne. You may not have acne but the smooth and even feel after using this mask is divine!

  • Wash or cleanse your face

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon into a paste.

  • Apply the mask, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.

  • Rinse the mask off thoroughly and pat your face dry.

  • Moisturize!

3. The Basic Honey and Sugar mask

Many people are joining less-sugar, less-carbs gang. Well, you can't blame them! Research shows that a high number of people add sugar to everything they eat. As an inflammatory food, excessive sugar causes your skin to flare up, leading to skin conditions and other health issues. Therefore, everything in moderation, my people!

So, what do we do with these sweet bags lying around in our kitchens?! Well, sugar may be better on the outside than it is for our insides, after all. It is a natural humectant, that is, it helps to retain moisture on your face. It is also a natural exfoliant that removes dead skin cells, without stripping the skin of its natural oils and leaves the skin glowing. To have this glowy feeling;

  • Mix some sugar, honey, and a few drops of olive oil.

  • Rub in circular motions around your face.

  • Rinse off your face, pat dry, and moisturize!

  • Using this twice a week should do the trick.

Try this too: This could be used as a lip scrub as well.

4. The Good-Old Steam This is Grandma's special recipe that works wonders by helping to unclog your pores, and steaming too often causes breakouts, opens your pores, and boosts circulation. Treat yourself to a personal sauna experience.

  • First, cleanse (or wash) your face.

  • Boil some water in a bowl and add a few drops of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is antibacterial.

  • Place your face over a bowl of water and drape a towel or light blanket over your head.

  • Do this for about 10 minutes.

  • Rinse off your face with some warm water, and (you already know!) moisturize.

Try this too: Substitute tea tree oil for other essential oils like lavender oil, rosemary, etc. Better still, add fresh parsley herbs to your bowl of hot water and steam away!

Extras:

- Washing your face with warm water is always best because it doesn't strip the skin of its natural oils and prevents the regrowth of acne.

- Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

- Having any irritation to natural ingredients like honey, turmeric, cinnamon, is sometimes rare but always carry out a patch test. It is super easy! Apply some of the paste to the back of your hand, and wait for about 10 minutes to see if your hand says its a no-no!

As always, I hope every regimen soothes you and gives you the nudge to keep soaring through life. Allow yourself the grace to grow, blossom, and uplift someone else! Recognize your fears, and do you anyway!

Love & Peace,

The Lady Nudge.
